STEM XX

The STEM XX Nigeria project aims to train 100 school girls in 10 schools in rural South West Nigeria. These girls would be trained and tutored on how to become agents of change in their communities after going through the thorough curriculum on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Civic responsibilities.

Currently, the project is being undergone in 10 schools, in 3 rural southwestern communities of Nigeria. The project started fully on the 17th of October, 2022 with a baseline survey on the student’s knowledge, attitude and perception of the STEM XX Nigeria Curriculum across the schools.

The result of the baseline survey proved that about 80% of the girls are unaware of what the SDGs, stereotypes, STEM and mental health stand for. The facilitators (50) swung into action and taught the students about the curriculum. A lead instructor was attached to each school with other instructors to aid in teaching the students.

A midline survey has been conducted to determine the level of progress made so far after the forum. It was a delight to see the different mindset shift of these schoolgirls. They are well on the right path to being drivers of change. Some of the girls have a newfound aspiration in the science field, and even in politics. They believe in themselves and are looking forward to implementing their community projects afterwards.

Although there were various challenges like some students being absent at certain times, the quality of the classroom and time change for these classes due to their examinations, the STEM XX Nigeria curriculum has been completed in most of the 10 schools.
