The Sports for Peace project aims to break the stigma, fear, racism, and religious misunderstanding by using sports to promote peace and solidarity while establishing the basic foundation of the sports’ core values: teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The project was held in the province of Sarangani.
Children have been by far the most affected by the war in the area of Saranggani. These children who are victims of the war would have had many different lives and gone on to become positive citizens. Today, it pains me to say that will most likely not be the case. To help these children we initiated the sports for peace program.
The Office of Physical Education and Sports in partnership with the local government unit of Sarangani presented the Sports for Peace program in its mission to fight violent extremism by using sports as a vector of peace. The beneficiaries of the projects were the schools near the red-hot communities of Saranggani which are reported to be areas most affected by the war.
The S4P Project succeeded in its quest to integrate and promote peace and camaraderie. The Project became the best avenue for promoting the core values of sports; teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The project was cited by the Department of Education in Sarangani Province as the BEST PRACTICE in promoting PEACE through non-violent forms of war.
