The pandemic in 2020 hit hard and a lot of individuals faced difficulties. With the help of International NGOs like CARE INTERNATIONAL, SAAH came up with advantageous plans to halt further transmission of COVID-19 and mitigate the impact of the outbreak, including socioeconomic impact.
In September of 2021, We led a national campaign called “TAXADAR” which means “Be Aware” in the Somali language. This campaign was both for awareness and training sessions towards primary and intermediate school kids on preventing and reducing the risk of Covid-19 and its transmission. The school kids learned how to practice social distancing, covering the mouth when sneezing, avoiding community gatherings, washing hands with soap as well as keeping good hygiene in general.
Seeing the importance of raising awareness in the community, some of the school kids in Kismayo and in Mogadishu later volunteered to take part in community awareness-raising campaigns by using loudspeakers from one school to another.
