The other side of Covid-19 in Chereponi District, Ghana

My name is Joshua Kwabena Aniaku, during the covid- 19 pandemic I sought to help a community in Ghana. The major focus of my initiative was on the delivery of health screening services to those residing in rural areas of Ghana. Since the governments’ focus had shifted to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, other illnesses that used to kill more people than COVID-19 were not receiving as much attention as they should.

This was because Covid 19 seemed to be more extreme at the time and had a global effect. The population that was most significantly affected was comprised of those who lived in more rural regions. Through the efforts of this programme, people who lived in outlying areas were given support in order to facilitate their access to screening services.

These assessments included screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, and overall body mass index (BMI). This project was carried out at Chereponi, which is situated in the northern area of Ghana, which is known for having a higher rate of poverty.
