Rebuilding and Support for Community

Mount Semeru, which is located near Lumajang, East Java, Indonesia, went off on December 4, 2021, when it suddenly erupted. According to a report that was provided by the Regional Disaster Management Agency of the Lumajang Regency on Wednesday (12/8/21), the number of victims who had passed away had reached 34 people, the number of people who had been injured had reached 69 people, and 16 people were still being searched for.

The bulk of those who had perished in this catastrophe were villagers; yet, as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, the villagers’ economy was also suffering, and as a result, they did not have the resources necessary to cope with this catastrophe. As a result, members of our Pharmacy Community came together to gather some money to assist the victims.

We were able to raise $2,208.66 USD, as well as gather clothes, food, and medical supplies such as masks and hand sanitisers, in order to assist the victims in maintaining their health in the face of the pandemic caused by the covid-19 virus and the circumstances caused by this natural catastrophe.

On December 9th, members of our community personally delivered supplies to the location of the catastrophe. We saw severe destruction to the houses of the victims, as well as the killing of plants and animals. In addition to assisting the victims, we also participated in cleaning up the area and planting more trees on the rich soil that was left behind.
