Living in Need: Trying times of COVID19

There is Joy when magnanimous hearts extend their hands of help to those in need and are blessed with the smiles of people who acknowledge that they are not alone after all.
The COVID-19 pandemic had its toll on many families, especially during the lockdown. This outreach was targeted to the over 2,000 people of Angwan Miango in the Jos city of Plateau state, especially women and widows whose hands were tied and isolated from the media updates.

Our encounter with Mr Gyang, a truck pusher and Mrs Josephine a market woman who like other families were in a dilemma of either watching their kids fizzle out slowly to hunger or risk getting the virus necessitated the Youth for Environmental Sustainability and Development (YESD) initiative to hold high the banners of her mission of outreach, awareness and environmental justice. We started a Covid-19 fundraiser on social media and it is with heartfelt Joy that we raised the sum of N119,000.

The money was used for the purchase of Food stuff, Staple products, hand sanitisers and materials used to promote awareness about health stipulations for Covid-19. We could not have done this without our volunteers, our amiable donors, whose hearts were big and their hands open even in these trying times. We hope to reach out to fifty (50) similar communities with this intervention in the coming year with support.
