COVID-19 Frontline

It was during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic that I felt compelled to join the health system of management for the virus because I was concerned about the health of my fellow countrymen. I’ve just begun working as a Call Center Supervisor for Covid-19, an initiative funded by UNICEF. After some time had passed, I was a member of the COVID-19 Rapid Response Teams as the Medical Director.

Active case-seeking and risk communication for COVID patients were our responsibilities in the teams. We mostly serve disadvantaged populations in the city’s slumpier neighbourhoods, where residents lack ready access to basic medical care. The Rapid Response Teams operate out in the field. A typical medical team consists of a physician, nurse, technician, and psychologist. The team’s many tasks included spreading information and knowledge about COVID; screening for the disease; identifying possible cases; providing psychological support; collecting and analysing samples; prescribing treatment; and isolating individuals who may be infected with COVID-19.

Over 30 thousand individuals have gotten help from us via RRTs. In addition, I was a Call Center Supervisor for a while before joining RRTs. Our team’s job there was to field inquiries regarding COVID-19, provide responses, suggest at-home treatments and quarantine measures, and direct patients to facilities equipped to handle the virus. The 115 number was the initial and only way for individuals to get in touch with the COVID health system administration.

Each day, operators received over a hundred calls. Our group helped about 18 thousand individuals. Due to an initial scarcity of Human Resources brought on by the outbreak, I was thrust into a wide variety of system-wide roles, some of which were outside of my formal training. The Directory of Public Health in my area has benefited from my work and contributions to its data-gathering methods. The aforementioned are some of the ways in which I helped save lives throughout the epidemic.
