On Sunday, October 9, 2022, the Children Of The River community joined forces with the Saung Bambon community for the Clean Up Ciliwung River initiative under the theme “Children of the Mulung Ciliwung River.” This action aligns with a global effort to reduce plastic waste disposal by 30%, addressing the significant challenge of waste ending up in rivers and eventually flowing into the sea, jeopardizing the beauty and sustainability of river and marine ecosystems.
Comprising primarily young students, employees, and teachers, our community recognizes the urgent need to preserve the river’s borders to safeguard its biodiversity from harmful waste. The primary goal of our river clean-up efforts is to promote awareness about responsible waste disposal, emphasizing the dangerous impact of litter on river biota preservation.
Following the clean-up, collected rubbish was repurposed to create terraced embankments, mitigating the risk of landslides along the Ciliwung riverbank. Our collective action not only promotes the cleanliness of the riverbank but also serves as a joyful expression of our commitment to environmental stewardship.
Together, we’re making a meaningful difference in safeguarding the health and beauty of the Ciliwung River, reinforcing the importance of community. Small actions matter, you can take action today and make a difference.
