Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer is a condition that is frequently linked to females. However, although much less commonly, males can also get breast cancer. Unfortunately, many men are unaware that they are at risk for the illness because male breast cancer is uncommon and there is little public knowledge of it.

My exciting project is about increasing awareness among Sudanese males and females since breast cancer is common in females but fatal in males with figures increasing recently. Males become obsessed with muscle building by using hormones which is the main risk factor for cancer. As prevention is better than cure I aimed to increase awareness to do self check examinations at home and clinics.

Less than 1% of all breast cancer instances are males, making it a rare disease. Even though it is uncommon, males should still be aware of the danger. The American Cancer Society predicted that in 2021, 2,650 new instances of invasive breast cancer in males will be identified and that 530 men will pass away from the disease. With a few outliers, the risk factors for male breast cancer are comparable to those for female breast cancer. The disease is typically found in males over 60 years old, making age the biggest risk factor.

My current challenges include social stigma in my country, difficulty in convincing males to join lectures, go to clinics or finding male volunteers. So sharing thoughts with people from different societies might help a lot with my project and maybe convince more people to be a part of it.
