Covid 19 and Education

People in Nigeria and all around the world endured unimaginable amounts of pain and suffering as a result of the epidemic that was caused by the COVID 19 virus. During the height of the pandemic, I was somewhere between seven and eight months pregnant with my daughter Kamsiyochukwu. Even though we were unable to make it to our regularly scheduled prenatal checkups, I continued to worry about the children in the neighbourhood who were not in school because they were not receiving an education.

As a teacher, I found myself longing to be in the classroom, but I never stopped searching for innovative ways to maintain my students’ interest. The first thing that we did was send some lesson kits back home with the students. At school, I would print off the materials, and their parents would pick them up at school for their children. After that, we went on to the next step and started engaging them by using Edmodo, Zoom, and finally my very own personal bitmoji classroom. My bitmoji classroom was designed in such a manner that every one of my pupils looked forward to coming to each and every one of my classes.

I am grateful to God that the outbreak has ended so that we may go back to our regularly scheduled academic pursuits.
