Cervical cancer is a preventable disease that disproportionately affects women in underserved communities. Project CARE, a powerful initiative implemented in Cross River State, Nigeria, is taking a stand against this silent threat. Through a unique pharmacy-based approach, the project aims to increase awareness, reinforce preventive measures, and ultimately achieve the eradication of cervical cancer.
Project CARE recognizes the crucial role pharmacies play as a first point of contact for healthcare needs within communities. By utilizing this strategic access point, the project effectively raises awareness about cervical cancer prevention services. This innovative approach ensures women have easy access to vital information and resources.
Project CARE doesn’t stop at awareness. The initiative provided cervical cancer screening for more than 40 women. This empowers women to take control of their health and participate in preventative measures. Additionally, daughters within the target age group were referred for HPV vaccinations at health centres, ensuring comprehensive protection for future generations.
