The Mask Up to Show Up campaign was a COVID-19 awareness programme by the Nigeria Youth SDGs Network in partnership with Mastercard Foundation. This campaign impacted 25 communities across ten states in Nigeria. The programme involved educating community leaders and members on COVID-19 safety measures through proper handwashing, social distancing and wearing a face mask or nose cover.
The programme provided 5,200 nose masks to 17 civil society organizations and 10,000 nose masks to community members as well as hand sanitisers. The programme was able to directly impact 13,350 people and we worked with the Primary Health Centres in the 10 states. In a community in Kwara state, the programme was able to get 70 members of Soluyi community to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The community leaders said it was the first time they were getting any intervention with regard to healthcare for their community. The Mask Up to Show Up campaign was supported by 112 volunteers. It was great to see our action have an impact on the society and improve the lives of many individuals.
