Making a Difference: Community Service Initiative by Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Students

The School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Dire Dawa University, Ethiopia has taken a significant step towards fostering community engagement and social responsibility. A group of dedicated students and staff recently volunteered their time and skills to serve the residents of Asegedech Elderly Care Center and Mecadonia Elderly and Mental Health Care Center.

To enhance the living conditions of the elderly residents, the team manufactured and donated 10 dining tables and 8 clothesline racks. Additionally, they collected and distributed used clothes and shoes, ensuring that the residents had access to essential clothing items.

The volunteers also provided direct assistance by engaging in various activities such as cutting hair, trimming nails, and washing clothes. These simple acts of kindness had a profound impact on the well-being of the elderly residents.

By participating in this community service initiative, the students and staff of the School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering have demonstrated their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. This initiative highlights the importance of giving back to the community and fostering a sense of social responsibility among the next generation of engineers.
