Empowering Young Minds: Introducing the SDGs to Future Changemakers

I recently had the privilege of leading a training session for a group of enthusiastic children at an elementary school in my community. This eye-opening experience underscored the importance of youth empowerment and the crucial role they play in shaping a better future.

The training session, attended by 50 eager students and their teachers, aimed to introduce the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to this young audience. We explored the significance of these global goals, discussing why they are essential for creating a more just, equitable, and sustainable world for all.

I emphasized the importance of civic engagement and encouraged the children to think about how they can contribute to achieving the SDGs in their own lives and communities. As an example, I shared my own project, which focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. I explained my passion for addressing plastic pollution and creating innovative solutions for a circular economy.

I encouraged the children to share this valuable information with their families, friends, and neighbours, inviting them to learn more about the SDGs and consider applying for the UPG Class of 2025. I believe that by educating and empowering young people, we can inspire a new generation of global citizens who are passionate about creating a better world.
