A group of lecturers launched an initiative to promote girls’ education in the rural areas of Ninawa governorate in Iraq aiming to reduce educational disparities, empower young girls, and promote sustainable development. The initial phase of this initiative involved the establishment of 10 community learning centres across rural villages, benefiting local communities and increasing access to quality education
The initiative was primarily funded by the group’s resources and generous donations from friends and partners who shared a commitment to educational equity. Financial contributions and in-kind support have enabled the acquisition of textbooks, school supplies, and other necessary materials. The educational activities were organized and executed with the assistance of at least 15 volunteers, including local teachers and education students from the University of Mosul.
The team was thrilled with the immediate positive impact and has set ambitious goals to expand the project. By the end of 2025, they plan to establish an additional 20 community learning centres and launch educational programs to benefit 1,000 girls and foster long-term educational development in the region. Their efforts include workshops on the importance of girls’ education, aimed at empowering the local community to support and prioritize girls’ schooling actively.
The initiative aims to promote girls’ education and create a model for community-driven educational advancement that can be replicated across other regions facing similar challenges.
