In celebration of World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2024, the University of Buea Association of Medical Laboratory Science Students, in partnership with the Cameroon Association for Medical Laboratory Science (CAMELS), embarked on a mission to improve public health in Molyko-Buea, Cameroon. The team organized a free sickle cell disease screening program, a crucial step towards disease prevention and community empowerment.
The screening program was a resounding success, with 103 individuals receiving crucial information about their sickle cell status. This initiative not only provided valuable health information to the community but also raised awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and disease management.
This collaborative effort between students and professionals demonstrates the power of youth engagement in improving public health outcomes. By actively participating in community health initiatives, these young scientists are contributing to a healthier and more informed society.
