Digging Deep: Junior Guides Explore Soil Health with the Yunga Challenge

Recently, our Junior Guides embarked on a fascinating journey of discovery with the WAGGGS Yunga Challenge, a global initiative focused on soil health. We rolled up our sleeves and got our hands dirty, delving into the fascinating world beneath our feet to understand the vital role soil plays in sustaining life on Earth.

Our exploration began with a series of engaging hands-on activities. We conducted experiments to analyze soil composition, testing its nutrient content and observing the diverse community of microorganisms that inhabit this vital ecosystem. We discussed the impact of human activities, such as sustainable agriculture and urbanization, on soil health and explored the importance of conservation practices to protect this precious resource.

The Yunga Challenge sparked lively discussions among the Junior Guides, with everyone sharing their ideas on how to protect and nurture our soil. We explored a range of practical solutions, from composting and reducing food waste to supporting local farmers who employ sustainable agricultural practices.

This engaging experience not only deepened our understanding of soil health but also instilled a sense of environmental stewardship in our young members. The Yunga Challenge empowered them to become active citizens and take concrete steps towards creating a more sustainable future for our planet.
