More than 10 staff members and 40 students from the School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Dire Dawa University visited the Macedonia Elderly Care Center to support and assist the residents. During the visit, the staff and students engaged in various activities such as washing clothes and cutting hair and nails for the elderly residents. The school’s representatives also donated used clothes, shoes, and 20 packages of 1/2-liter water to the elderly.
The visit was a meaningful opportunity for the staff and students to engage with the elderly residents and provide practical assistance to improve their quality of life. The act of service and support also reflects the values of compassion, empathy, and community engagement that are integral to the mission of the School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
Furthermore, during the visit, the representatives from Mekedonia Elderly expressed their gratitude and blessings for the staff and students. They also identified areas in which our staff could provide ongoing support and assistance to the residents. This feedback will be valuable in shaping future initiatives and collaborations between the school and Mekedonia Elderly.
The visit to Mekedonia Elderly not only provided an opportunity for practical service but also fostered a sense of social responsibility and community engagement among the staff and students. It is a testament to the school’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond the academic realm and contributing to the well-being of the broader community.
