United People Global Sustainability Leadership (UPGSL) is one of the most impactful initiative that mobilises people and organisations to support positive citizen leadership on sustainability. We bring together people who are committed to impact by taking positive action. UPG is a community that encourages and enables people to participate in making the world a better place. This is achieved in various ways and especially by contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). UPG works to raise awareness, strengthen belief, facilitate collaboration and foster community.
Started in 2019, the UPGSL programme was developed in close collaboration with the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership in the USA. 60 UPG Sustainability Leaders from 31 different countries and 7 continents were successfully trained. As on date our 60 UPG Sustainability Leaders have reached over 6’000 people on the ground in universities, schools, organisations, and communities across the world through their mini-trainings and are benefitting many more through their inclusive and inspiring projects.
Following the success of UPGSL 2019 program, we have expanded our reach for the class of 2021. We received more than 4’300 applications from 151 countries and of which more than 600 candidates from 114 countries are being trained through virtual sessions focusing in the areas of project management, stakeholder engagement, communication, digital communications, and much more. Of these 600 candidates, 60 top performers will have a chance to attend an all expenses covered 1-week training at Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, in the USA, in summer 2021.
